Tip 1: The first greet defines you

As the baby emerges head first - be sure to be greeting your baby all the way till the baby is in your hands. Do not rush to weigh the baby or even cut the umbilical cord. Do not get worried about the blood. Take a deep breath and maintain composure and greet the baby with his/her name and at least have 3-5 sentences ready to allow the baby to recognise your voice. Babies by nature will always warm up well with the mummy since she will be breastfeeding the baby daily, but the daddy got to leave a deep impression ... maybe with a deep voice too, to let her know who the man of the house is. If you have not tried it, do it next time :)

I decided this first tip will be my first blog entry - what a way to start a blog of tips by a new daddy and maybe my 10,000th tip will never be so far away. 1-2 tips a day would hit that target by the time my first kid is 20 years of age or so. The first 5 minutes with Haruka was spent greeting her and she was looking around the room curiously with eyes wide open and her eyes were actually circling round the room. She was wondering wow- where is this place - its not filled with water anymore. Yes, her eyesight will be blurry upon birth but that still makes for a new sight for - compared to being in the womb. And I realised even after a month after her birth, Haruka could recognise my voice. She could probably even remember it from her mummy's belly, as I noticed how she responded when she listened to my voice especially in her first 1 month when her vision was blurry.

So remember to leave your lasting deep voice, daddies. Its important. Of course, that means you will have to accompany mummy in the surgery room.
